Teenage me vs. Present-day me

Teen me vs. Present-day me, originally uploaded by redmeg8.

You gotta view this one big here!

I did this teen me vs. now me for a very cool meme I found thru drawn.ca
You can see it here: davario.livejournal.com/30861.html

I've had some Prismacolor markers for awhile that I've never used until now. It was SO fun!! I highly recommend this little challenge. :)

Two drawings from about a decade ago...

Elder-wise Eye, originally uploaded by redmeg8.

I've been cleaning my studio and re-discovering "old" work. It's quite nice. Makes you think, "hmm... not half bad" at times. And sometimes, you need that, you know?

Share & Share Alike

I've become thoroughly addicted to the insanely useful Google Reader. It's one stop browsing through all of the blogs/feeds that I want to check out daily. It's upped my perusing 100 fold, at least. It's so flipping easy to use. Eep - I sound like an advertisement. Sigh.

Anyway, I've added a side-bar element (on the left) here on the blog that lets you see the posts that I "star", or, think are awesome. I thought I'd share.

The direct link to my particular "share feed" is here:  http://www.google.com/reader/shared/06279673759061773910?hl=en

Enjoy!

PS> A tip: If you subscribe to your own blog, you can view how many other people are subscribed too. Use the 'show details' link in the upper(ish) right! :)

I have a Wikipedia page... jealous?? ;p

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Redmeg8

That's right people. Watch out! :)

No, actually, the genesis of this apparent ego-stroking comes from the fact that I'm now an active editor on Wikipedia and they give you the option. Because I'm not just doing it for the pure fun of it, I figure it'd be good for folks to see a little of my credentials.

Why?

Well, last year I was charged with the maintenance and up-to-date-ed-ness of both the MEDICAL ILLUSTRATOR and THE ASSOCIATION OF MEDICAL ILLUSTRATORS' Wikipedia pages (I'm a member of the AMI's PR committee).

Exciting, no?

No? Well, pthb! I quite enjoy learning the coding and making tables, etc. ;p

Opening reception for STILLEVEN

Tim Lowly just sent me a few of the photos from last Friday's reception in Chicago. Click HERE to see the rest!

There was a nice turnout with a lot of the Northpark U. students and one of my favourite medical illustrators: Dawn Scheuerman! She brought me pretty purple daisies and irises. So sweet.

It was nice balance to my Dad's memorial which was the day after. It almost feels like the show was a big gift from him... which I know sounds kinda weird, but, somehow it feels true to me.

Anyway, I'm still in a haze from my Dad's death and I know I haven't said much about it here. It's just hard to do it, do him, justice. Someday maybe I will.

My Dad. He was awesome.

A quick thank you

...to everyone whose reached out to me in the past few weeks. Your kindness did not go unnoticed even if I've been slow to reply.
Thank you x a billion.

My ongoing 43 things list...

February 25, 2008

A sweet award I did not expect (and links to some folks you should know)!

love you award

I received this lovely award alongside some other amazing women artists (and one guy) by the very nice RavonCol, a friend from Flickr and Everyday Matters. I am so surprised! It really made my day and makes me wanna get back on the Drawing-A-Day stick which I know I've fallen off of lately.

So, I now need to honor a few others and keep this award going. There are some I'm omitting because they were in Col's post, so, please check that out for more (i.e. Felicity G, Andrea Joseph, etc.)! I hope I don't forget anyone obvious! Please forgive me if I do!

1. Cedar Raven (RavenCol): Really thoughtful and inspiring EDM entries abound from her! Of course, she's #1 for awarding me. :D

2. Anne Ruthmann Photography: Our wedding photographer extraordinaire and a really lovely person. Her blog is chocked full of inspiration and great information for the small business person. She's really funny too.

3. Allison Sommers: Her work sends my head into a whirl of "I wish I'd thought of that!" and "I need to get on my game!" Truly indescribable paintings of wonderment.

4. Emusing Emma: My Scottish crafty friend who is burdened by a wealth of great ideas.

5. Karen Blados: She gave me an award a few months ago that I don't believe I returned, so, it's about time I DO! Her sketchbook pages are sooooo enthralling and well done. I can't imagine anyone not becoming addicted to reading them.

6. Wagonized: What she can do with a car and a PEN! Holy crap. I lovelovelove how obvious it is that she LOVES her subjects as much as she does.

7. Supah: Kickin' in old skool - Amy and I go waaay back to our mid-90's Chicago art skool days and she was the sole inspiration for me starting a blog/website and a lot else. Wackiness, kitties, squirrels, Boston Terriers, recipes, and fun-kay planters abound over at her site.

8. The Loud Librarian: Marissa and I are non-internet-based pals through Eric and she has a wit that is unmatched. Need a good book to read? You will not be at a loss on her blog.

9. Gallery of the Absurd: I have a small celebritiwhore streak and it's primarily reserved for Carpet Burn & Fourteen's website. Honestly, whatta illustrator & commentator. UPDATE: Apparently, she has merged her site with Holy Candy to become Circus Hour!

10. Heather Bailey: I just discovered her blog and I cannot imagine how she does all that she does! She creates amazing things for her kids (and kids in general) and drop-dead-gorgeous fabrics. I could aspire to being so driven, honestly.

The participation rules are simple if you'd like to keep this going:

1. If you get tagged (and want to play along), write a post with links to blogs that you love,

2. Link to this post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme.
