A photographer, a sculptor, and me

This is in its infancy, but, I feel so compelled to tell people that I'm letting the cat out of the bag before I know what is going to happen. Well, I know a little about it, obviously. :)

Anyway, this will make you THINK about the internet and its usefulness, I think...

I am a rapid Flickr addict (as most of you know) and I post all of my Drawing-A-Day project sketches there. In fact, they often go up there before they are posted to their "official" home over at Alltaglich. Anyway, I have a Flickr contact, t i m o (aka Tim Lowly), and he does gorgeous ala-Andrew Wyeth-esque (if I may be so bold) paintings that take my breath away. A few days ago, he sent me an email which I'll spare you the details of, but without which I wouldn't be posting this today...

He is the curator, art director, and Artist-In-Residence at Northpark University in Chicago and he is developing a show for March (?) around the theme of "still lives". He saw my drawing-a-day project and has asked me to be ONE OF THREE people in the show.

... CAN YOU BELIEVE IT???

I... I'll have MY OWN WALL! I'll show my precious, beloved, little project to 100s of people! In Chicago, my most favouritist city in the Universe!

Now, that's about all I know. I'm assuming it'll be in their Carlson Gallery on the banks of the north branch of the Chicago River, but, I haven't confirmed that. Nor do I know precise dates or the identities of the other 2 artists.

When I do, as I'm sure you have surmised, I will let you know! I think this is worthy of a postcard mailing... at least. :D

Can you tell I'm excited?? Can you FEEEEEEL it through your glowing screen? Woo hoo!!

Silent art auction for a sweet little boy

Dawn Bennett, an old art school friend of mine has experienced MORE than her fair share of tradegy in the last year. She lost her young husband, her puppy, and now her 8-month-old son's medical bills (he needs treatment for a condition he was born with) are becoming unmanageable.

Her family and friends (including me) are joining together to hold a silent art auction to raise money for her son Patrick. Please head over to: forp3.com/index.php/site/auction_list/ to see all of the gorgeous work that's available and see if you can help. There's a helpful FAQ here if you need to know more: forp3.com/index.php?/site/auction_faq/

PS> Hopefully my submissions will show up on the site soon. They are originals and one is this piece: www.flickr.com/photos/redmeg8/402519343/

PSS> Patrick Powers II (the husband) was an INCREDIBLE video artist. See some of his work here:  http://forp3.com/index.php?/site/Pvideo

Win your wedding photography from the awesome Anne Ruthmann!

OK, I'm a little partial... Anne was OUR wedding photographer, AND she's a great friend, AND I designed the poster you see above... ;p

But man, if you have the wherewithall to do something like this DO IT. Need more proof? I've got three sets:

a) Anne's website
b) Our engagement slideshow
c) Our wedding slideshow

Huh?? Huh??! Can you believe her generosity?

This medical illustrator just had a surreal 'woah' moment

OK... I am cognizant of the fact that I do illustrations that go out into the world and people see them & use them for studying or whathaveyou. Despite that, I've never seen anyone literally studying from a textbook, etc. with one of my pieces in it.

Well, I just witnessed one of my illustration being used... randomly... and it's FREAKING ME OUT. I was just strolling through a cafe here at Eastern Michigan University (where I'm taking classes) and I glanced at a fellow student's computer screen as I passed (tsk! tsk!). Lo and behold - I see an illustration of a pituitary gland on the screen of a CD-ROM I worked on back in '02!!

I literally stopped, interrupted this poor girl from her studying, and asked to take a closer look. I am so lame!! Anyway, she didn't really understand what I meant by "I drew that!" I had to elaborate and when I did, she was kind of stunned. People really don't think about the professional of medical illustrator all that much and this was proof.

Cool random happening, right?? :)

New links added!

You may or may not have noticed that I keep several pull-down menus full of links over there to the right. I thought it was high time I started posting when I added new links to them 'cause I think every single link I add is worth visiting by each and every one of you :)

Today, I added two of my Flickr artist friends:

Felicity Grace: http://sketchesbyfiz.blogspot.com/   (Art I Love)
Wagonized: http://www.wagonized.typepad.com/  (Pals)

Both are fantastic and artists that you should know.

I think that's it for now. Oh, and if you aren't sure what the "Resources" pull-down is all about, it's a compendium of art/medical illustration/creative links for those of you of that persuasion.

Enjoy!

This has been cracking me up all morning...

Confirmed: I've infultrated hipster-land!

Weeehooo!!! Beegirl was right!, originally uploaded by redmeg8.

Check it out! My Knock Knock book was spotted by a Flickr friend of mine, so, Eric and I sojourned to our local Urban Outfitters to confirm her finding. As you can see from above, the report was true!

Of course, none of the staff could get past their cooler-than-thou apathy to care too much. Although, one guy was nice about it and asked to shake my hand.

Anyway, I thought it was exciting... and that's all that matters, right?

Sighting: Urban Outfitters

One of my contact friends on Flickr just posted the following:

beegirl211 says:

These are FANTASTIC!! My husband picked up the book you illustrated the other day when we were in Urban Outfitters. Here's me yelling in the store...I KNOW WHO DID THAT!!! Congrats! It is so cool to see you "out there"!!!

WOAH!! I'll be sojourning to UO tomorrow to try to confirm these findings. This could be the most kickass finding yet, my friends. And no, I will not be keeping it a secret if I see my book there - I will be jumping up and down!
