A smattering of my favourite Flickr artists

I love introducing people to new music AND new visual artists, so, here is a sample of some of my favourite work from Flickr these days. There are A LOT of talented folks on that website.

This isn't meant as a comprehensive representation of all of my artist friends on Flickr, btw.  Just a quick idea I thought would be cool.

Click on the photo above to go to my Flickr page where you can find links to everyone's work shown here.

Coffee Drinks Illustrated

Picture_14

I love two things about Lokesh Dhakar's "Coffee Drinks Illustrated":

1. The design is lovely

2. It helps dorks like me understand such things very effectively.

I have two "featured books" on Blurb.com!!

Woah woah, WHAT?? I went to subscribe to the XML feed for the "featured books" category on blurb.com and GUESS WHAT I SAW???

BOTH of my books? Featured?? Seriously?!
I... I am speechless.

I love "free" crap

I cashed in Coke Rewards points AND Leisure Rewards points from my bank today! Pretty sweet.

I got a "free" pair of vintage Adidas shoes with the $50 Adidas gift card I got thru Coke (see? all of my diet coke drinking isn't for nothing!) AND I ordered two Amazon.com $25 gift cards with my bank's leisure rewards. That should offset at least one school book a little ;)

And I still have points left! ROCK! ;)

Attention, mystery book shoppers!

I'm not sure how to tackle this, so, I'll start here. Anyone who ordered my books from Blurb and HASN'T GIVEN ME THEIR ADDRESS - I need it! Blurb doesn't show me who buys the books so it can protect the buyer's privacy, so, I have a bunch of mystery purchasers as a result.

Please email me and tell me which book you bought and your address so I can send you your bookplate!

I'm frantic trying to think of ways to find out who these buyers are! Help!

My books are in print!

Email_book_pic
I have exciting news! The drawing-a-day project I've been working on since last November 2006 is now available in print!

Head on over to Blurb.com to see each 40-drawing volume (there are two) and order one, if you'd like. They're available in softcover & hardcover (with a swanky dust jacket). You can even see a pdf preview of each before you buy!

Softcover is $22 and hardcover is $32 - they're a steal!

Also, the first 30 people who order (and send me their mailing addresses) will receive a signed & editioned bookplate to afix inside their copy!

Thank you ALL for your support of this project.
I hope to self-publish more
books like this in the future!
All my best,

Wha???

I got an Army recruitment email today.
It started like this, "You’ve probably already received information about the U.S. Army’s scholarships for medical students..."

How fast did I hit delete, you might be wondering?
It would stun you to know. Sigh.

Save Indie Media (The Nation, etc.)!

Stamp Out the Rate Hike: Stop the Post Office

"Teresa Stack, The Nation's president, explains the crisis this way: Postal regulators have accepted a scheme designed in part by lobbyists for the Time-Warner media conglomerate. In short, mailing costs for mega-magazines like Time-Warner's own Time, People and Sports Illustrated will go up less than other magazines or even decrease. But smaller publications like The Nation will be hit by an enormous rate increase of half a million dollars a year."

Highway sign fonts are changing

Yeah, you read that right. It's nothing I have ever thought about before, honestly. Highway signs have a font? And there are people who make decisions about what that is?

It's true and apparently all of our nation's signs are in the process of being changed from Highway Gothic (no joke; top picture) to Clearview (bottom picture).

I love life. I swear... what a cool thing to think about. Am I nuts? Yes, yes I am. :)

You know, I'm sad when things like this go away, though. I bet those old signs gain some sort of status as collector's items and wind up on ebay for tons of cash too. Sigh.

Also, I know they say that the Clearview font is easier to see, but, doesn't that photo look Photoshopped to you? It does me. Hmph!

"Your application has been made available to the designated medical schools."

EEP!!! The ball is rolling...
